We’ve used our design process for thousands of homes and it’s proven to be effective and efficient time and again. Here is what you can expect when you hire Willson Design to design your home.
This complimentary initial meeting usually takes place at the site of your project location or at our office where we have many of our past projects featured on the walls for inspiration. Your choice! Here we get to meet each other, learn more about you and your project, and talk rough construction budget numbers.
The goal of the exploration stage is to get inside your head. In order to make it easier for you to articulate and us to understand your ideas we have a custom Design Checklist for you to walk through. This helps you explore every room and feature of your future home and often brings to light aspects you may not have thought of yet.
We want to explore with you. Come to our office with your wish lists, sample plans, and ideas you may have found on Houzz, Pinterest, Instagram, or even a picture that you saw in a magazine or of a home that you drove by and loved – you can even bring your tablet or laptop! We will make suggestions and take notes as we discover your needs and desires.
Need some help with ideas? Explore our online Project Gallery or swing by our office to check out many more projects featured on our walls.
After we conduct a feasibility study by researching all the necessary zoning bylaws in your area, we will create a unique preliminary design that includes simple floor plans based on the exploration stage and previous meetings.
Now it is your turn to review your preliminary plans and make any notes or changes. We encourage clients to pull out their colored pens and mark the drawings with their feedback. We will modify the plans accordingly, working together with you in person, over the phone, or by email until you are happy with the refined floor plans.
Design Some More
Once you are 90% happy with the floor plans (some final tweaks can be made in the next stage if needed), we will design and present to you the two-dimensional elevations which shows what the building looks like from the outside.
After you give us the OK, we will proceed with the permit and/or construction drawings. This includes drawing details, cross sections, and putting all the necessary information on the plans that the trades will need to build your house.
After your plans are done, we check over them – twice, just to be sure. They are then sent to the engineer for structural review and stamping.
Your plans are ready! Come by our office to review and pick up the final product.
